Who am I?

Maia Matches (née Maia Machèn) is a Canadian-born comic artist, illustrator, and researcher who has lived in the Netherlands since 1999. Fluent in both English and Dutch, she combines her cross-cultural perspective with a deep commitment to social justice and archival storytelling. In 2023, she began studying in Brussels to further develop her research-based comic practice. Her work is driven by a strong narrative voice and a graphic style rooted in lived experience, often weaving together personal and political histories.
